I work in oil painting. Through colour, imagery and composition, I convey states I experience in contemplation and spiritual practice. I am interested in the moment when inner experience takes visible form and becomes accessible to another person.

Mythology, archetypes and symbols give me a language for this work. I approach them through my own perception: an image may arrive before I know its name or understand its connection to a particular tradition. Research then begins — a meeting between lived experience and meanings already present in culture.

In Tarot. Cups, I explore desire, intention and embodiment. In Awakening of Ancient Goddesses, I turn to feminine strength, acceptance and inner memory. Each painting takes shape around a state I seek to preserve and convey through painting.

The work begins long before the first brushstroke. I gather images, study material and spend time before a blank canvas. Sometimes a painting arrives whole; sometimes it reveals itself in parts. Contemplation helps clear my attention and sense when an image is ready to take form. As I work, I remain open to the ways painting itself changes the original intention.

I perceive colour in connection with sound. I seek a relationship between colour, rhythm and space through which the painting begins to convey the state I have experienced. This sense of presence is what tells me a work is complete.

A painting continues its life in another person’s space. I feel responsible for what it brings there. Through my work, I seek to convey stillness, inner composure and strength — states that can be returned to in everyday life.
